Carta 132a

Summary

In a letter to his son John, Tolkien describes the disruptive impact of increased traffic in post-war Oxford, particularly on Holywell Street. He expresses concern for Edith's health, attributing her neuritis to the constant noise from the street. Despite these disturbances, she remains more cheerful and happier overall.

Tolkien discusses plans to rearrange their living space to mitigate the noise, considering moving his room upstairs, but these changes will have to wait until after his current exam obligations. He also notes the rejuvenation of their garden, which is beginning to bud.
