Summary
In this letter to Rayner Unwin, Tolkien apologises for the delay in completing the required maps for The Lord of the Rings. He explains that the task necessitated a thorough re-reading of the entire text and the creation of a rough index of place-names and distances.
He also expresses concerns about the shape and scale of the maps fitting poorly with the proposed format of the book and requests advice and assistance in resolving these issues.
