Summary
In this letter to Sir Alan Bullock, the Vice Chancellor of Oxford University, Tolkien expressed his deep gratitude for being awarded an honorary Doctor of Letters on June 3rd. Tolkien conveyed his surprise and disbelief at receiving such an honour from the University. Additionally, he extended his personal thanks to Sir Alan for the warm and kind reception he received during the ceremony, which he found profoundly moving.
