Beavers

Beavers were large rodents, famous for their habit of building dams and lodges. They lived in Middle-earth as well as in the southern regions of the island of Númenor. "Beaver the builder" was mentioned among other animals in the Long List of the Ents. The Dwarven name Bífur meant "Beaver" or, by extension, "Hard Worker".
