Birches
Birches were smooth-barked forest trees that grew in the Shire, Dimrill Dale, Fangorn Forest, and Emyn Muil.
The Sindarin word for "birch" was hwinn, while in Quenya was hwindë.
A "silver birch" in Sindarin was known as brethil. This consequently gave its name to the Forest of Brethil.

Wood of this tree can be foraged by Westfold foresters in Enedwaith, Dunland, and near the the Great River.
