Delving

Delving was a town in the Shire that appeared in Perry-the-Winkle, a nursery rhyme by Samwise Gamgee.

It was perhaps a fictionalization of Michel Delving.

Etymology

The name represents a possible Old Hobbitish form Delfing. It means "digging".
