The Eastemnet Gullies - The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers

The Eastemnet were the plains of Rohan east of the river Entwash until it reached the Anduin and the Emyn Muil, respectively. The Wold was the northern part of the Eastemnet.

History

Before the War of the Ring, herdsmen of the Rohirrim lived a nomadic existence on the plains of the Eastemnet, where they would drive their herds across the grasslands and live in temporary camps and tents, even during the winter. When the Three Hunters, pursuing the Orcs who had captured Merry and Pippin, followed them to the Eastemnet on 27 February Third Age 3019, the plains were empty.

During the War of the Ring, the Wold was invaded by Orcs from the north on 11 March Third Age 3019, but the Ents defeated the invading Orcs the next day in the Wold.

Etymology

Eastemnet means "east-plain" in Rohanese. The element emnet means "flat land" or "plain" in the language of Rohan. The word emnet means "level ground" or "plain" in Old English.
