Udûn (valley)
Udûn was the deep valley in the northwest of Mordor, formed at the meeting of the Ered Lithui and the Ephel Dúath. Its northern entrance was guarded by the Morannon and its southern entrance was guarded by the Isenmouthe. The fortress Durthang stood in the northern Ephel Duath, on the slopes above Udûn.
Etymology
The name Udûn is Sindarin, meaning "dark pit, Underworld" or "hell".

Added in the Mordor expansion, Udûn is one of the five areas that make up in the in-game region of the Plateau of Gorgoroth. It contains two great forges, Anglach in the north and Mornaur in the south, as well as dozens of lesser gear- and forge-works scattered throughout that were busy producing arms for the armies of Sauron.
