Waw

}}In Middle-earth Role Playing, Waw was an island archipelago off the southeast coast of Lóchas Drûs, inhabited by descendants of Wôlim settlers. The island was traditionally governed by Elder Councils. Since its rule by the Dog-king Dwar, it was also known as the Isle of Dogs.

The Wôlim of Waw were described as typically having hazel eyes and a ruddy complexion.

Geography

Horm was a fishing village on the island, which was later expanded into a port. The island also had a citadel named Alk Waw on its southeastern peninsula.

History

Between the second and third centuries of the Second Age, the island was settled by the Wôlim.

In Second Age 1965, the K'prur of Hent attacked Waw. The village of Horm was burned, many people died, and most fishing boats were sank. A K'pur overseer was installed in the citadel of Alk Waw. A survivor of the attack, Dendra Dwar, returned in Second Age 1980 to enact vengeance. Having trained the years before, he took the citadel. The K'prur besieged the citadel for two years, until Dwar overcame them in Second Age 1982 with two-thousand warhounds. He reconquered the island, but took power instead of reconvening the Elder Councils.

Turning his hometown of Horm into a massive port, he had a fleet constructed. He conquered nearby islands, including Címóníemor, an Elven island to the south. Waw ultimately conquered Hent, but Dwar had seemingly disappeared, leaving his nephew Dendra Swip as the new Lord of Dogs. In truth, Dendra, now a servant of Sauron, secretly remained in Alk Waw for 252 years. From there he pushed his heirs to more pillaging and conquest, until he had to depart to Mordor in Second Age 2250. He briefly returned to Waw during the capture of Sauron by Ar-Pharazon.

In Third Age 1051, a reawakened Dwar returned to Waw. By then, the island had become part of Lóchas Drûs. He manipulated a rebellion against their Lochan overlords. The people of Waw reconquered Címóníemor in Third Age 1507, and under Dendra Dwar II Waw finally declared itself independent again in Third Age 1617.
