Arantar

Arantar (Q, pron. [aˈrantar]; Third Age 185 – Third Age 435, died aged 250 years) was the fifth King of Arnor.

History

Arantar succeeded his father, Eldacar, when he died in Third Age 339. Arantar was the great-grandson of Isildur, last High King of both Gondor and Arnor.

He ruled uneventfully for ninety-six years, and was succeeded by his son, Tarcil, when he died in Third Age 435.

Etymology

Arantar is a Quenya name. Its meaning is not glossed, but Paul Strack suggests its means "High King" and is a compound of aran ("king") and the affix -tar ("high", "lord").
