Fall of Mount Gundabad

The Fall of Mount Gundabad took place shortly after Eregion was destroyed (c. Second Age 1697).

After the doors of Khazad-dûm were shut, Orcs, reinforced and commanded by the servants of Sauron, invaded Mount Gundabad and drove the Longbeard Dwarves from their revered site and dwelling. As a result, the Grey Mountains were infested, and communication between Khazad-dûm and the Iron Hills was cut off for a time.

It is not recorded how long the Orcs occupied Mount Gundabad. Mount Gundabad was one of the strongholds of the Orcs when a great force of Dwarves of Durin's Folk and of the Houses of other Fathers of the Dwarves sacked it at a point in time between Third Age 2793 and Third Age 2799.
