Carta 143c

Summary

In this letter to his publisher Allen & Unwin, Tolkien addresses several issues with the proofs of The Fellowship of the Ring. He returns the proofs and discusses the problems with some of the Elvish script, which appears poorly written and incorrectly sized. He identifies a significant error in the Elvish inscription and suggests corrections.

Although reluctant to delay publication further, Tolkien expresses a preference for a new, improved block design, submitting two specimen designs for consideration. If this is not feasible, he requests a specific correction in the text to address the error.
