Trees

The Oak was one of the most common trees in Middle-earth, found throughout the numerous forests. Thorin II became known as "Oakenshield" when he chopped off a bough of an oak to ward off the blows of enemies in the Battle of Nanduhirion.

Portrayal in adaptations

1994: Middle-earth Role PlayingTreasures of Middle-earth

A type of Oak tree, namely Furry Oak, is described in the book. It was named for the fuzz on the underside of its leaves and the caps of acorns. These acorns were well-liked by the Galadhrim and the Woodmen, who used them in baking.

2007: The Lord of the Rings Online:

Wood of this tree can be foraged by Eastemnet foresters in Rohan.
