Girdley Island

Girdley Island was an island located in the Brandywine River, north of the Brandywine Bridge.

Etymology

David Salo suggests a possible Old Hobbitish etymology from *Gyrdlieg "girdle-island". "Girdle" probably refers to its being 'girdled' (enclosed) between the river-branches.

As in Rushey, the ending -ey means "island" in Old Norse and is found in English island names (cf. Gurnsey).

Portrayal in adaptations

2007: The Lord of the Rings Online:

The Girdley Island sits on the border between in-game regions of Shire and Bree-land. It is identified as a point of interest, but is not part of any quest or achievement, nor are there any enemies found on it.
