Hador (Steward of Gondor)

7th Steward of Gondor

Hador (Third Age Third Age 2245 – Third Age 2395, aged 150 years) was the seventh Ruling Steward of Gondor.

History

The rule of Hador occurred during the time of the Watchful Peace (Third Age 2063-Third Age 2460) so Gondor enjoyed peace throughout his reign.

On the three hundredth anniversary of the Stewards' Reckoning, the calendar introduced by his ancestor Mardil Voronwë, Hador added an extra day to the year Third Age 2360. This was done to reduce the millennial deficit, thus keeping the calendar in synchronization with the seasons.

Hador ruled Gondor for one hundred and seventeen years, and was succeeded by his son Barahir. Hador was the last Gondorian to live 150 years and after his time the life-span of those with Númenórean blood waned more rapidly.

Etymology

For the meaning of his name refer to Hador (word). Hador was probably named after Hador Lórindol, the ancient Lord of Dor-lómin, a great hero of the First Age.
