Orgulas Brandybuck
History
Orgulas was the youngest son of Marmadoc Brandybuck and Adaldrida Bolger. He had one son, Gorbulas.
Etymology
The meaning of the name Orgulas is unknown. J.R.R. Tolkien noted that the names of the Bucklanders had a vaguely Celtic style.
Jim Allan noted that the adjective orgulous ("proud", "haughty"), an anglisized form of a French word corresponding to orgeilleux in Modern French, is used by Malory in Le Morte Darthur. There it is used as a title of a Knight of the Round Table named Bellyance le Orgulus.
