Chequers Clubbe

The Chequers Clubbe was a dining society at Exeter College, founded in Hilary Term 1914 by J.R.R. Tolkien and Colin Cullis, and given permission by the Sub-Rector on 30 January 1914. Many of the members had likely previously been members of the Apolausticks, another club founded by Tolkien.

Tolkien provided the menu artwork (see Ye Chequers Clubbe Binge) for a club dinner, held on June 18, 1914.
