Seven Gates of Gondolin
The Seven Gates of Gondolin were seven mighty gates guarding the Orfalch Echor, a ravine by which Gondolin was approached via Tumladen.
History
The Seven Gates were built by King Turgon to protect Gondolin from invasion. It was through these gates that Tuor and Voronwë passed to enter into Tumladen. However, it was not through these gates that the host of Morgoth entered and laid seige to Gondolin, as after hearing Ulmo's warning, Turgon closed the doors.
The Seven Gates each had their own divisions and units of guards, such as the Dark Guard, that were led by different captains or chieftains, such as Elemmakil. The gates, listed from the end of the Orfalch furthest from Gondolin to the end opening into Tumladen, were:
