New English Alphabet

The New English Alphabet was a phonetic script created by J.R.R. Tolkien near the end of his life that he utilized when writing in his diaries.

According to Christina Scull and Wayne G. Hammond, Tolkien labeled a drawing of the Eye of Sauron symbol as Sauron once in Tengwar and once in his New English Alphabet. In either 1964 or 1965, Tolkien wrote the words Poor Queen in the postmark of an envelope as an act of contrition in his New English Alphabet.
