House of Elwë
The House of Elwë Singollo was the royal family that ruled the land of Doriath for millennia.
History
Origins
The ancient line was started by Elwë Singollo (also known as Elu Thingol) in the Y.T. 1152, when upon waking from his trance he appeared before his people (the Sindar) with Melian and gathered them together to form Doriath, the mighty woodland kingdom in Beleriand.
Death of Thingol
Thingol, after being given the golden necklace (Nauglamír) by Húrin, employed skilled dwarven smiths of Nogrod to restore the necklace to its former magnificence. But the Dwarves, being enamoured of the beautiful treasure and the Silmaril it contained, sought to have it to themselves. After completing their work they refused to hand Nauglamír over, claiming he had no right to the craftsmanship of the dwarves. Thingol, perceiving that they wanted the Silmaril, bade them leave his land without payment. But the smiths slew him, took the mighty jewel, and fled towards the mountains.
