Telumehtar Umbardacil
Telumehtar (Third Age 1632 - Third Age 1850, aged 218 years) was the twenty-eighth King of Gondor. He succeeded his father Tarondor in Third Age 1798.
History
In the early years of Telumehtar's reign over Gondor, the Corsairs of Umbar raided the coasts of Gondor as far as the Anfalas.
Recalling the death of Minardil and rankled by the insolence of the Corsairs, Telumehtar resolved to put an end to these attacks and gathered his forces. In Third Age 1810 he retook Umbar by storm and drove out the Corsairs. In that war the last descendants of Castamir were killed.
Telumehtar added the epithet Umbardacil to his name to commemorate his victory. Umbar was held by Gondor throughout Telumehtar's reign.
Etymology
Telumehtar is the Quenya name for the constellation Orion, meaning ("Warrior of the Sky"). Paul Strack explains that the initial element is telumë ("roof, canopy; heaven, sky") and that the second element might be mehtar or ohtar ("warrior").
His epithet Umbardacil means "Conqueror of Umbar", being a compound of Umbar + -ndacil ("victor, slayer").
Other versions of the legendarium
In contrast to the published version where Umbar is retaken by storm and then again held for a while by the kings, the haven and stronghold of the Corsairs of Umbar are stormed and destroyed and Umbar was later reoccupied and rebuilt in the troublous times that later befell Gondor in manuscript C with corrections and expansions of the Heir of Elendil.
