Joel Tobeck

Joel Tobeck is a Kiwi actor who portrayed Guritz in The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King. His scenes were filmed for the pickups for the film in 2003.

The prosthetics for Guritz took five hours to apply and Tobeck became good friends with Make-up artist Gino Acevedo.

It was initially reported that Tobeck would portray Sméagol, prior to his transformation, though it was reported that he was no longer being considered. It was decided Andy Serkis would play him both before and after his transformation.
