First Age 1
- The first rising of the Sun marks a new reckoning of time, and the end of the Sleep of Yavanna. Morgoth and his servants cannot bear the light of the Sun.
- The Second Children of Ilúvatar, Men, awake in the far east in Hildórien. Morgoth then leaves Angband in secret, committing command of the war to Sauron; he seeks to corrupt Men.
- With the first sunrise, the host of Fingolfin arrives in Mithrim after the crossing of the Helcaraxë.
- Fingolfin marches unopposed across Dor Daedeloth and bangs on the Gates of Angband; however, Morgoth remains hidden.
