Summary
In this letter Tolkien asked Furth if Stanley Unwin's young son Rayner would care to read a typed version of A Long Expected Party, the first chapter of what would become The Lord of the Rings. Rayner was, he remarked, a "a very reliable critic".
In the expanded edition
In the beginning sentence Tolkiens asks for four more copies of The Hobbit, and at the end says he has been ill for most of the holiday.
