Summary
Tolkien describes his recovery from a severe virus infection he contracted in September. He explained that his illness required daily visits from an anxious doctor for a month and left him severely weakened. He was unable to walk for eight weeks and only returned home afterward. His wife bore a significant burden during this time, having to nurse him despite her own arthritic condition, until they moved to Bournemouth for the care of another trusted doctor.
