Carta 97a
Summary
Tolkien had lately found daily tasks tiresome and laborious, describing a tedious round of lectures and other routine work, though enlivened by a Tuesday meeting with C.S. Lewis and other friends and a reading of Sellic Spell on Thursday. At the annual dinner of the Catenian Association on Thursday night, Tolkien was required to give a toast. He felt that he had done so successfully, overcoming his nervousness with the help of the drinks served at the dinner and proposing the guest of honor's health in Anglo-Saxon.
