Castamir of Umbar

Castamir of Umbar was a Bosun of the Corsairs of Umbar during the War of the Ring

Castamir is an original creation for The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King film. He is portrayed by director Peter Jackson.

Biography

Preparing for the Siege of Gondor, Sauron gathered his full strength, including his Orcs, the Haradrim, Easterlings and the Corsairs of Umbar. The Corsairs set off down the Great River Anduin towards Minas Tirith, with Castamir acting as Bosun of one of the Black Ships. He yelled "Come on!" to the crew.

On the way to the White City, the Corsairs passed by the Three Hunters, standing on a shore. Aragorn proclaimed "You may go no further! You will not enter Gondor." The ship's captain asked "Who are you to deny us passage?". Aragorn ordered Legolas to fire a warning shot past Castamir's ear. Gimli told Legolas to mind his aim, before purposely bumping the Elf's bow with his axe. Gimli's interference caused Legolas’s shot to strike Castamir directly in the stomach. Castamir cried out in pain and fell backward. If Castamir was not slain by the Elf's arrow, he was certainly killed when the Army of the Dead, under Aragorn's command, stormed the boats.
