First Age 503

• Thingol is killed by the Dwarves, who steal the Nauglamír. In grief, Melian vanishes to Valinor and thus withdraws her Girdle, leaving Doriath unprotected to the enemies.
• The Dwarves are pursued by the Elves and killed except two of them, who return to Nogrod. The Nauglamír is brought back to Menegroth.
• The Dwarves of Nogrod invade Doriath and attack Menegroth, defeating the Elves in a battle within the Thousand Caves. Mablung is slain, the Sindar are scattered, and the Dwarves take the Nauglamír.
• Aided by some Green-elves and the Ents, Beren defeats the Dwarven host at the Battle of Sarn Athrad. He then returns to Tol Galen with the Nauglamír for Lúthien to wear it.
• Birth of Elwing in Ossiriand.
• Accompanied by his family, Dior removes to Doriath to reign over it as its King.

• Birth of Eärendil in Gondolin.

• Final death of Beren and Lúthien. King Dior receives the Nauglamír.
