Summary

Christopher Tolkien, who was then age 11, was on holiday in Devon with family friends Dorothy and Charlie Moore. Tolkien wrote that he was glad the weather had been good for the holiday so far, in contrast to the weather in London. He mentions spending time with friends John Binney and C.L. Wrenn, and reports that Priscilla has caught a cold from John.

Tolkien mentions the BBC broadcast of his translation of Pearl, which he says was badly done. He also states that The Hobbit is "nearly finished, and the publishers clamouring for it".
