Valandur

Valandur (Third Age 462-Third Age 652, age 190 years) was the eighth King of Arnor.

History

In Third Age 552 he had a son, Elendur. He succeeded his father, Tarondor, to the throne in Third Age 602.

Little record remained of his reign of fifty years, except that it was cut short in Third Age 652 when he died prematurely. He was the first and only King of Arnor after Isildur who died violently.

He was succeeded by his son, Elendur, upon his death.

Etymology

Valandur is a Quenya name. Its meaning is not glossed, but Paul Strack suggests it means "Servant of the Vala" and is a compound of vala ("Vala") and -(n)dur ("servant").
