Haerast

Haerast, the Far Shore, referred to the north-eastern coast of Aman (specifically Araman) as seen from Nevrast across the Belegaer. Haerast was the opposite of Nevrast, the Hither Shore of Beleriand.

Etymology

Haerast is a Sindarin name. The meaning "Far Shore" is its translation analyzed as *hae "far" + *rast "shore".

These words have not been attested in canon by themselves, but can be deduced etymologically. Hae represents root KHAYA, also seen in words na-chaered, haeron, cf. also Q. háya "far"). While rast is seen in the names Andrast, Nevrast, cf. also Q. hresta "shore, beach".
