Orchaldor
Orchaldor, the son of Hatholdir, was descended from the House of Hador. He was a close friend of Tar-Meneldur and married his elder daughter, Ailinel. The son of Orchaldor and Ailinel was Soronto, who desired the kingship. When Tar-Aldarion created a new Law of Succession in Númenor, which allowed his daughter Ancalimë to receive the Sceptre, the possibility existed that if she refused to rule, died childless, or remained unwed beyond a certain time limit, then Soronto would have become King. As it happened, none of these possibilities came to pass and Tar-Ancalimë served as Númenor's first Ruling Queen.
Etymology
Orchaldor is a Sindarin name. Its meaning is not glossed, but Paul Strack suggests it means "Tall Lord" and is a compound of orchal ("tall") and -dor ("lord").
