Menelrond was the name of the throne room of Thingol in Menegroth. It was so named because of its huge dome adorned with silver and precious stones, the arrangement of which, thanks to Melian's visions, perfectly respected the position of the stars of the Dome of Valmar.

Etymology

Christopher Tolkien translated the Sindarin name Menelrond as "heaven-dome".

It combines the elements menel ("heavens") + -rond ("dome").
