Tar-Telperiën
Tar-Telperiën was the tenth monarch of Númenor and its second Ruling Queen. She was the eldest child of Tar-Súrion.
During her rule (S.A. 1556 - S.A. 1731), the Rings of Power were forged (S.A. 1600), and the War of the Elves and Sauron began (Second Age 1693). When King Gil-galad called on Númenor for aid against Sauron in S.A. 1695, a great navy was sent forth under the admiral Ciryatur's command. It was delayed in reaching Middle Earth until S.A. 1700, but reinforced Gil-galad's imperiled forces at the river Lhûn and was key to the subsequent rout of Sauron's forces at the Battle of the Gwathló.
Tar-Telperiën "would wed with no man" and was long-lived even for one of Elros' line. She died within a year of giving up the Sceptre to her nephew and successor Tar-Minastir, the son of her younger brother Isilmo.
Etymology
Telperien is a Quenya name. Its meaning is not glossed, but Paul Strack suggests it could mean "Silver-daughter" as a compound of telpë ("silver") and the feminine suffix -ien ("-daughter"); though it could also be a feminised form of Telperion, the name of the White Tree of Valinor. Like all the rulers of Númenor who took their royal names in Quenya, Telperien added the prefix tar- ("high") to her name when she received the Sceptre.

Tar-Telperiën ordered the construction of a massive wall that completely encircled the cape of Umbar (at the time called Vëalondë by Numenorians) to protect it from the peoples of Harad to the East. "Telperiën's Wall" would mark the furthermost extent of the realms of Numenor and later Gondor in Haradwaith, though the passage of millennia eventually made it useless as defensive structure.
