Irolas was a Man of Gondor in Minas Tirith and a servant
Irolas is an original creation for The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King film. He is portrayed by Ian Hughes.
History
Irolas and other Gondorian soldiers watched as Gandalf rode out on Shadowfax, protecting Faramir and his troops who were fleeing from Osgiliath by repelling the Nazgûl with his staff. Irolas greeted Faramir and the soldiers at the gate of Minas Tirith. He praised the wisdom of Denethor II, claiming he had foreseen the Orc attack on Osgiliath. Gandalf rebutted "Foreseen and done nothing".
After Faramir returned after his assault on Osgiliath, Irolas hurried his gravely injured body through Minas Tirith. He was brought to the court and Denethor emerged, asking whether Faramir had fallen. Irolas told him that they were outnumbered and that none had survived.
Dumbfounded, Irolas witnessed the total breakdown of Denethor as he ordered everyone to abandon their posts.
Inspiration
In the commentary of , it is stated that he was originally to be called Beregond, but as the role was reduced, Peter Jackson saw little use in still calling him Beregond. On a Decipher Card, Irolas is identified as Imrahil instead.
